The Gloucester Marine Station will be getting $3 million in upgrades — including a living seawall, new research and education space, and a dock — according to project stakeholders, city officials, state lawmakers and others who gathered at the facility Friday to announce the funding.
“The UMass Amherst Marine Station Gloucester is a unique asset, integrating research, teaching and engagement in fields central to our history as a coastal community and key to its future,” said state Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, D-Gloucester, in a press release. Ferrante joined others, including Mayor Greg Verga, during Friday’s event while wearing a red UMass Amherst baseball cap.
“The funding announced today will enable Cape Ann to remain a leader in the blue economy and conduct the research necessary for sustainable and resilient communities,” Ferrante said.
